Maku subbies make good

31/08/2008 10:05:00 PM
THE Maku Netball subbies teams finished their first Saturday morning schools netball season with spectacular results.

The Under 10s team lost only one game for the season, and that was by forfeit when a player did not turn up on the day, while the Under 11s team lost two games, each by a point.

What is remarkable is that before the start of the season only one of the Under 10s had ever played netball before and only two of the Under 11s had played before – the rest of the girls were novices to the game.

Maku coach, Donna Johnston, said: “I'm very proud of the girls – each and every one of them.

“Their confidence and self-esteem has risen enormously. They have also developed in netball skills since the start of the season.

“This was their first season of playing netball and they really enjoy the game.”

She said the Bega Health Service had helped the girls out by providing their uniforms.

Maku Netball is hoping to attract more players next season. For information contact Loretta Chambers on 0447 092 972, or Naomi Winters 0434 699 501.
