Going with the flow

AFTER years of practising asanas alone in front of the television, Nerida Glanfield has taken the next step.

Recently she travelled to Hawaii and completed her level one teacher training in Power Vinyasa Yoga.

Now she is sharing her knowledge of the style – which was developed by American master Baron Baptiste – with the Goldfields.

Using the vinyasa or sun salutes to connect poses, this form of yoga is a dynamic blend of tradition and innovation.

Ms Glanfield describes it as “very flowing and powerful”. She explains that the practice works all aspects of the body, while controlling the breath and building up heat.

The classes are being held in the dance studio at the Goldfields Arts Centre on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

These serve as a basic introduction to Power Vinyasa Yoga. Sessions consist of 15 minutes of warming up and then 40 minutes of basic level yoga series, ending with relaxation.

The class is aimed at anyone over 16, of

any shape and fitness level, and no previous experience of yoga is required.

Ms Glanfield incorporates advanced modifications for those who are ready to progress to other levels.

She plans to hold a full 90-minute Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga class on Wednesdays from 5.30pm to 7pm.
