College students go the distance

GOLDFIELDS Baptist College held its cross country carnival last Friday with children from the primary high schools participating in separate events.

Some were decked out in their faction colours, including face and hair paint with accessories.

Also joining in the fun and games were some of the teachers, scoring points for each of the teams.

Colour, team spirit and camaraderie were the order of the day.

Distances run varied. Years 1, 2, and 3 students competing over a 500-metre course.

Years 4 and 5 students ran 1.5 kilometres, students from years 6 and 7 ran two kilometres and years 8, 9 and 10 students tested themselves over three kilometres.

Students ran, walked, jogged and jumped their way to the finish line.

Winners of the three-kilometre distance went according to year and gender. Crossing the line first for the year 8 boys was Brian Kagoro, winner for the year 8 girls was Alethia DuPreez.

Year 9 winners were, for the boys Sam Wood, and for the girls Marlise Brink.

Leigh Vanderwal came in first for the year 10 boys and Holli Kiely won it for the year 10 girls.

With primary students contributing, over-all results for the teams were – Wesley 146, Luther 129 and Calvin 103.

Today, Friday, Goldfields Baptist College will be hosting an inter-school cross country to be held in Centennial Park from 9am.

Runners from 13 schools will be participating. Presentations will be held at 11:30am.
