POLICE officers from the Licensing Enforcement Unit (LEU) in Kalgoorlie-Boulder for Race Round last week issued a scantily-clad barmaid with an infringement notice for lewd and indecent behaviour.
Before race Round publicans of hotels featuring 'skimpies' were warned they risked being fined if staff attire or behaviour was deemed to be inappropriate under liquor licensing legislation.
The Skimpy at the Golden Eagle Hotel was issued with a $400 infringement notice for her behaviour and the licensee company and hotel manager were each issued with $1000 infringement notices, police said.
The LEU officers also issued $1000 infringement notices to the licensees and managers of the Exchange, Kalgoorlie and Federal Hotels for alledgedly permitting drunkeness on licensed premises or selling liquor to a drunk person.
The officers also issued a total of 28 drug testing notices on Kalgoorlie-Boulder-based crowd controllers.
The results of those tests will not be known for some time, police said.
Officers at Kalgoorlie Police Station commented that Race Round crowds were better behaved this year and that because of an increased police presence Race Round revellers were under no misconception that poor behaviour would not be tollerated.
“Having the numbers that we did (close to 40 police on Friday and Saturday nights) enabled us to jump of incidents of unruly (or) anti-social behaviour quickly thus removing the problem so that others could enjoy their evening without incident,” Sergeant Rhonda Copeland said.
From last Thursday through to Sunday police issued 73 'move on' notices, made 42 arrests and issued 15 summonses for various offences.
Licensed premises were visited about 116 times, more than 89 vehicles stopped, 12 speeding infringements issued, three seatbelt infringements were issued, two drivers were charged with driving without a licence, three were charged with exceeding .08 and one was charged with exceeding .05.
In the most serious incident during Race Round, Kalgoorlie detectives charged a 24-year-old Kalgoorlie man with assaulting another man outside Paddy's Ale House September 12.
Police will allege he forcefully smashed a beer glass into the victim's face causing serious injuries.
